The Mark Roskill Symposium was founded in memory of art history faculty member Mark Roskill, who taught at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst for over 30 years. Each year, M.A. candidates successfully organize a compelling symposium which gathers scholars and experts to spark dialogue around critical issues in the field.

This year, we have chosen to converge around the theme of Native American issues in the arts. Strength, Unity, Power: Contemporary Practices in Native Arts explores the cutting edge of what artists, museum professionals, and scholars today are doing to promote justice for Native American communities, both in the art world and beyond.
